Love the story and is great for new readers: 8-9years

My son has taken longer to read and get into reading in general. I needed something to be grabbing his attention and keep him challenging his new skills. He was still reading basic step 2 books and we jumped into this. It has words he couldn’t sound out BUT the story was compelling from the get go. I just read over the words he needed help on and asking comprehension questions and after the first two chapters, he was off on his own wanting to know more and more. He loves this book and I do too! It’s fun and engaging!

Great Lessons Throughout

I was given this book to review a long time ago. Unfortunately it fell way down the stack of my pile of books. I am sad I waited so long to read and review this book. I live in a district where books have to be read and reviewed by a group of people to be considered for our classroom libraries. Unfortunately this one has not had that privilege. I can recommend it to my students, which I will, but I can’t put it on my book shelves. Here is why I believe this should be allowed to be on my school shelves.

First we have very relatable characters. Allie is just starting middle school. Her mom is in the military and is missing. She stands up against bullies to defend Daniel, one of the nerds. Their friendship is necessary as they have many battles ahead of them. When Allies mom is deployed she leaves the necklace she has always worn behind. Allie wears it and of course we can expect things to happen.

There are many lessons to learn through reading this book. One stand up for those who seem weaker than you. That’s what Allie does when she defends Daniel. Never give up no matter how impossible it may seem or what obstacles are placed in front of you. A great author like this one knows how to wrap lessons up in a story line that is so amazing that the reader doesn’t realize until afterwards all the lessons they have learned. If I asked my students what connections they had with this book after reading it, those lessons would be the things they connected with. I will definitely read more in this series. I will also recommend it to my students. After all, we still have public libraries and book stores.

Game Spaced Series

For middle-grade readers who enjoy sci-fi, adventure and fantasy

Patrick and Trish are the male and female protagonists. They have been selected along with ten other children to travel to the planet Grimline-8. All participants under the age of seventeen will spend the five year journey in cryogenic sleep. While in their pods, the children will be playing video games. That may sound like a dream come true for some middle-grade students. On the other hand, Patrick and Trish will be facing zombies, pirates, wolves, and the like in their virtual world. In theory, the skills they acquired would help them to cope in their new world. The action moves quickly. Perhaps a little bit outlandish for some adults, but an enjoyable adventure read for its audience in grades three through six.

Minecraft, space travel, pirates, a dash of RPG,a pineapple under the sea and a robot wolf

Definitely written for a young teen or tween audience, but I would also recommend it for anyone who grew up a gamer and/or games with their kids. Some of the plot twists just make you laugh and the puns are sooo corny. You just HAVE to read this with your kids! Has both a strong male and female lead, so it is good for both boys and girls... and really for anyone who just enjoys a crazy little adventure.
